Here's a shot of Bob with NHRA's Steve
Gibbs at the 197? NHRA Summernationals. Believe it or not, Bob was the go-to guy for the NHRA when they needed to get something done. As you can see, Bob dressed for the 90 degree weather...
Here's the photo that started it all. Bob, for Jungle's
birthday in 1976? took over Pam's job and poured the water for JJ's
burnout naked at a Thursday test session at E'Town.
During Bob's "vacation" from
Raceway Park in 1985 he found the time to go on tour with Lew Arrington's
"Brutus" Funny Car at a Wednesday night match race at where else?
Englishtown
During a rainout at Englishtown in 1970 or
'71? a youthful Bob single-handedly picked up the front end of an Isseta
(spelling.)
Here's a shot you won't see anywhere else,
only a few exist. The Monday after the Summernationals in 1976 a bunch of
the NHRA staff wanted to take a group photo to send to "Diamond"
Jim Annin who couldn't make the race. Notice the bare butts and one-fingered
salutes and of course guess who with full frontal nudity...Can you spot
anyone else you might know?
Bob, doing his best to make sure the other
half are feeling their best
If you wanted to see a photo of Bob with a
chimpanzee standing on his shoulders wearing a Bob's Berserko Lounge T-shirt
with a gifted blond next to him at the pool in Acapulco, here it is..
Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins picked up a
tenth just by wearing a Bob's Berserko Lounge T-Shirt, could it work for
you?
Who's got the longer hair? Bob and the lovely
Linda Vaughn at the 1975 NHRA Division One Awards Banquet. Bob accepted the
Track of the Year award on behalf of Raceway Park
NHRA President Wally Parks was elated when he
got a Bob's Berserko Lounge T-Shirt at the NHRA Christmas party
During my tenure at Englishtown I really got to
know Buster Couch. We had a lot of fun over the years and he was a really cool
guy to hang out with. Someday I'll tell the story of a trip to Cantore's for
lunch that lasted into the night, boy did we have fun. This shot is from the
1991 Summernationals (I don't care what they call the race now, it's still the
Summernationals to me) of Buster and I chilling during a break in qualifyin
In the mid-70s Bob went on tour with Wayne
Jesel and the CMS C/Altered Camaro. This shot from the ADRA Nationals at the
old St Louis track shows the crew in the winner's circle after Wayne won
Competition Eliminator. On the left is the late, great Steve Collison who was
the Editor of Super Stock magazine for many years and will be inducted into
Don Garlits' Hall Of Fame in March 2003. That's Bob in the middle and Wayne
Jesel on the right. Wayne and his brother Danny went on to build the Jesel
company into one of the most successful aftermarket companies in the speed
equipment world and Wayne now owns two NASCAR Busch Grand National teams.
